When I was about 12 or 13, I often heard mum and dad discussing money.
Mum used to spend it, dad earnt it! Angrily he used to say, "Do you think my name is Rothchild!" Mum would wearily reply, "I wish it was!"
It wasn't as though mum was extravagant, she wasn't, but she was always on the look-out for interesting bargains or gadgets. It mattered not if we needed it she would buy because she thought it was a 'bargain'! So her spending was a bone of contention in our home.
However, unknown to mum, every so often dad would have a clear out of these 'bargains', you know, giving them to the scouts for their fetes and also to jumble sales etc.
It wasn't until a few months later when he was chatting to one of his friends at the bowls club, he learnt that this friend had picked up a vase at a local jumble sale for a few pence. He was so taken with it, and on closer inspection, recognised that it was quite valuable vase. He took it to a dealer, who valued it. He sold it and was paid quite a handsome sum. When he described the vase to dad, he recognised it immediately as one of the objects he had given to the jumble sale. I don't think I have ever seen him look so ill! Needless to say, he didn't say anything to mum about it!!! Dad's friend certainly had the art of knowing a bargain when he saw it! That little investment could have been my inheritance! Ah, well...

You must have a strong reason to become weathy and need a stronger motive other than money. What is the real benefit that you will receive from becoming wealthy? Fight the tempation to purchase things that either you don't really or that you can do without. Pay off the balances to all your loans and credit cards as soon as you can. Your balances will go down and so will your interest.

Remember that millionaires did not become millionaires by being spendthrifts!
